Who’s the Best in the AFC?

October 23rd, 2009 by mjmari No comments

peytonIn the NFC it’s a pretty clear cut case when trying to determine the best pro football odds team. At most, it’s a two team discussion. But in the AFC, even with two undefeated teams at the top of the win column it’s not easy feat trying to decipher which team is the best of the best.

Indy and Denver are the two last remaining teams without a loss in the football odds this season. But does that mean that they’re the best teams? Maybe, but it’s no open and shut case. Denver is one of only two 6-0 teams in the pro football odds and even knocked off a very good Pats team and took down the AFC North leading Bengals in week one. It also has one of the best defenses in the league, yet it’s hard to believe that any team led by Kyle Orton is the best in the NFL football odds. It’s also had some very good luck and could easily be 4-2 right now. Read more…

Falcons are a Quiet Force

October 21st, 2009 by mjmari No comments

falconsThe Atlanta Falcons must be the most underappreciated team in the football odds. But in a climate 24/7 news cycles and endless media outlets where teams can be anointed and crucified in the same day that’s not really such a bad thing. And so while the many other would-be contenders in the football odds race up and down the rankings the Falcons are quietly taking care of business.

Obviously the pro football odds world is starting to take notice. How can it not? But due to the scheduling of its bye week, overshadowing by the 5-0 Saints and a couple lack-luster matchups this team has so far been able to avoid much of the public scrutiny that many early season favorites (Jets, Ravens, etc) were buried under. What Steelers Running Game?

October 20th, 2009 by mjmari No comments

steelers 1Everyone loves to toss around clichés in the pro football odds and one of the most oft heard is the ridiculous “Steelers football” which is used to describe a punishing running that grinds downs opponents and allows the team to sit on early leads and dominate the fourth quarter. But as anyone who’s seen a down of “Steelers football” this year knows, this tag is an enormous misnomer.

The Steelers running game, for all intents and purposes, has been average at best, and in several football odds games, nonexistent. Whether purists want to believe it or not, the Steelers are now a passing team. With Big Ben putting up some of the best passing numbers in football and plenty of TDs this team is no longer the up the gut running unit that it’s long been known as. And fortunately, it doesn’t need to be as its passing attack is among the very best in the pro football odds.

Cardinals vs. Seahawks

October 16th, 2009 by mjmari No comments

cardinalsIt might sound like an Alfred Hitchcock screenplay but football odds chances are when the Cardinals travel to Seattle to battle the Seahawks it won’t be nearly as entertaining as the legendary director’s fiction.

These two pro football odds teams have been playing extraordinarily bad so far this year and this game surely might contain an element of Hitchcockian horror for fans of wither squad. After winning the NFC crown last season and nearly winning a Super Bowl this year’s Cards team is back to its same old trick in the football odds, losing at a prolific rate.  But the 2-2 Cards have reason for hope this week against an equally disappointing 2-3 Seattle team in a battle to see who gets to play second-fiddle to the Niners in the NFC West. Kyle Orton is the Biggest Surprise in Football

October 14th, 2009 by mjmari No comments

ortonWho knew that all it would take is change of pro football odds scenery and some talent at the receiver position to make Kyle Orton a pro-bowl caliber QB. If Lovie Smith and the Bears would have known they have made some upgrades in Chicago.

After swapping QBs in the football odds off season it looked as though the Bears had made off like bandits and the Broncos rookie head coach Josh McDaniels had made a tremendous blunder in dumping pro-bowler Jay Cutler for Orton. But it’s amazing how much perspective five pro football odds games can produce. Read more…
