Can Indy Go 16-0?
It was only two years ago that the New England Pats set the bar for regular season football odds excellence with their perfect 16-0 season. So it is possible, and the question that many Colts fans are asking these days is whether or not their squad can match that feat and finish the 2009 regular football odds season without a loss?
The answer is no.
The difference between the perfect Pats squad and this Colts team is that the Pats team had a lot more talent. They blew teams away in the pro football odds and were the highest scoring team in history. That team also had one of the best defenses in the NFL football odds that season as well.
The Colts are far-cry from that squad and have been grinding out close games and sealing the victories in the final seconds with very little margin for error. Sooner or later the team’s luck or the game clock will run out and when it does the Colts will notch their first loss.
It could very well happen as early as week ten when the aforementioned Pats come to town. It will be the first quality opponent of the season for the Colts and it will be a true litmus test.
With Peyton Manning running the offense (27 ppg) and the defense leading the NFL right now (13 points allowed per game) there is no reason not to think this is one of the two or three best teams in the league right now. However, going 16-0 is almost impossible and it doesn’t seem like this team has the talent to do it.
