Steelers look to avoid fifth straight loss vs. Browns

Who would have ever thought they would see that headline in the 2009 NFL season? After a winning the Super Bowl less than 12 months ago and jumping out to a lead in the AFC North, Pittsburgh has dropped four straight games (two against tomato cans) and now finds its playoff hopes all but dashed in what has been a disastrous November and early December for the defending champs.

Fortunately the Browns are the epitome of a terrible NFL football odds team. Still this is little consolation to a Steelers team that dropped two of its last three to a terrible Chiefs team and rotten Raiders squad. The game is in Cleveland and so offers some pro football odds advantage to the Browns.

But it won’t be enough. As bad as the Steelers have been playing the Browns are infinitely worse. And the odds of the Steelers losing six straight games seems astronomical. It’s hard to be all that confident of anything that the Steelers do right now but losing a game in Cleveland doesn’t even seem in the realm of possibility.

The champs are favored by 10 points in the early NFL football odds, which might seem a bit fat considering how the Steelers have been playing of late. But if they’ve learned anything from winning two Super Bowls in four years, it’s how to step up to the occasion. As pathetic as the Browns are it represents a huge game for the Steelers. Win and there is still hope for the postseason. Lose and the season is over. Bet on the Steelers to keep hope alive.
